Selling to us

Stanford Fine Art specializes in American paintings and drawings from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. We are always interested to view work for possible sale or consignment. Before contacting us about your artwork, please find answers to as many of these questions as possible:

  • Artist’s name or initials
  • Title
  • Medium
  • Size, without frame
  • Signature, and where signed or initialed
  • Location depicted in the painting, if known
  • Any labels or inscriptions
  • Where acquired
  • Condition, if known, including any repairs or inpaint

We offer verbal appraisals at no charge. There is an hourly fee for written appraisals. For personal visits by a gallery representative the fee increases. Any appraisal materials, including photographs and all pertinent information should be sent with attention to [email protected]. Please allow about two weeks from the time we see the work or receive the materials for the appraisal to be processed.

Consignment

The gallery takes works for consignment on a very discriminating basis. The gallery sets up consignments on a net basis to the owner. We suggest that it is realistic to set up a six month consignment period. We do  insure all works on consignment.

Framing

At Stanford Fine Art, our philosophy is that a frame can and should become an aesthetic extension of that particular work of art. With that concept in mind, we take pride in offering a varied and comprehensive selection of framing options that provides for historical congruity as well as allowing for tonal and dimensional harmony.

Appraisals

With a combined 40 years of art appraisal experience, the staff at Stanford Fine Art can provide professionally certified (USPAP) appraisals for an individual work of art or an entire collection. Whether for a private or corporate collection, we can prepare expert appraisals for a variety of needs including for fair market value, insurance retail replacement, estate and/or donations purposes.

Restoration

The condition of a work of art plays a vital and pivotal role in its intrinsic value. For that reason, Stanford Fine Art takes pride in offering expert and professional conservation services. Utilizing museum quality standards and cutting edge technology, we can assist our clients in choosing the best options for their conservation requirements for their paintings, works on paper, sculptures and/or period frames.
